Space Drone FPV using sounding rockets and RC

A brief walkthrough of the basic idea!

01

Use a simulator to start a league

Ace Racers SP

Players at home can train the skills required, and compete on the internet to gain rank.

02

Use the simulator to design the drones

Optimization of the drones

Players will have the ability in the simulator to experiment with different configurations and performance characteristics. The drones can be engineered to best match player performance.

03

hold tournaments to select competitors

Players earn spots on the real launches

Tournament winners can place into spots on the IRL races.

04

Use judges to select pilots who are not racers

Why only racers play?

The simulator competitions can also have judged contests for players to win the opportunity to fly the real drones without being skilled racing pilots. There can be “freestyle”, but also spots awarded via lottery to players who pass basic competency and will only fly at a beginner level for “backyard fun”!

A sounding rocket does not go to orbit. It can be launched nearly vertical to achieve a period of time where objects in the rocket will experience nearly 0-gravity during the coasting phase and before re-entry.

Once in space and coasting, the rocket payload can unpack. The course can inflate, and the drones can be released to be flown around the course.

The pilot can use RC equipment from the ground to achieve very low latency control of the vehicle.

The pilot can fly using the FPV camera from the drone to see what it sees!
